Why is your group called the 3 Belgians?

Originally SimpleGameNet started as a project of 3 Belgian Erasmus students in Halmstad, Sweden. The other Erasmus students referred to us as "the 3 belgians". And as we needed a group name for this site it seemed good enough.

Why is SimpleGameNet called SimpleGameNet?

Because it is focused on simple, user-friendly games over the internet.

When I host a game, other players on the LAN can't join.

First confirm that the other players are indeed using your IP and the port you are hosting on (default 8119). If you have confirmed that and it it still doesn't work, you are most likely either having firewall roblems.

  • Open your firewall and allow your hosting port (default 8119) to run a TCP server.
When I host a game, other players on the internet can't join.

First confirm that the other players are indeed using your IP and the port you are hosting on (default 8119). If you have confirmed that and it it still doesn't work, you are most likely either having firewall or router problems or even both.

Go to www.whatismyip.com and check if it is the same as your host IP according to SimpleGameNet. If it is the same, you are most likely having local firewall problems, see the previous question.

If it is not the same, you are connected through a router. Do the following:

  • Surf to your router and log in. Your router is ussually on the IP of your default gateway, ussually something like http://192.168.0.1. Next, configure the router so he allows your local IP to run a server on your hosting port (default 8119) and make this available to the internet (WAN).
  • Give the other players the ip noted on www.whatismyip.com.
Why does WinRar or WinZip open instead of SimpleGameNet when I double click on the installer jar?

WinRar or WinZip must have stolen the .jar extension from the JRE.

  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Select This computer.
  • Open the menu Extra/ Map options.
  • Open the tab File types.
  • Locate the extension JAR and edit it to open with javaw ( C:\Program Files\Java\J2RE???\bin\javaw.exe).
